the internet should be a place where everyone can be themselves.

the web was created by humans, for humans. personal websites are your own home in the internet's vast world. your website is Yours; it houses everything you want to share with the world. it is your space to display and discuss whatever you want without fear of judgement or ridicule. you can express yourself in whatever and as many colors, graphics, gifs and fonts as you want. ultimately, it can and should reflect who you are. it is a digital representation of yourself that anyone, no matter where in the world they are from, can meet and see. it's not just your digital home, it's you.

the bland and un-customizable profile layouts of many modern social media apps have dulled the vibrance the internet once held. splash pages filled with gifs and buttons have been forcibly replaced by white and gray backgrounds. blogs that served as doorways to one's personal experiences and thoughts have been forcibly replaced by character-limited posts and bios. forums that served as digital villages dedicated to infinite subjects have been forcibly pushed aside.
the design potential of a modern social media profile is limited to a bio and a profile photo, and any other opportunities for digital self expression are dictated by the billionaires who run the platform. the design potential of a personal website is endless, and only limited by its owner's desires and abilities.

we made the web, and we ourselves will decide what it is, not corporations and certainly not ai. we will visit the digital destinations we want to and seek out the content we want, not algorithms. we will make our own websites and blogs, and design our pages how we want. our websites are ours in every sense of the word, and we keep the old web alive by owning and running them. the internet is ours, and it always will be.
